In an interview with Time Magazine John Negroponte said the United States operates secret CIA prisons and he does not know the ultimate disposition of detainees in the prisons. Negroponte's comments appear to be the first open acknowledgement of the secret U.S. detention system and the fact that captives may be held indefinitely without charges.

As the New York Times reported Wednesday, the rates at which Sunni insurgents are killing U.S. troops soared over the past month.

The total number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq through Wednesday, April 12 since the start of U.S. operations to topple Saddam Hussein on March 19, 2003, was 2,360, according to official figures issued by the Department of Defense.

It is interesting to me for two main reasons. Is Ms. O'Connor saying judges are being physically and mentally terrorized to the point the United States is becoming a dictatorship because she was terrorized and forced from her US Supreme Court judgeship, as I suggested? Sandra Day O'Connor says US risks edging near to dictatorship

Sandra Day O'Connor, a Republican-appointed judge who retired last month after 24 years on the supreme court, has said the US is in danger of edging towards dictatorship if the party's rightwingers continue to attack the judiciary.
In a strongly worded speech at Georgetown University, reported by National Public Radio and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Ms O'Connor took aim at Republican leaders whose repeated denunciations of the courts for alleged liberal bias could, she said, be contributing to a climate of violence against judges.

In her address to an audience of corporate lawyers on Thursday, Ms O'Connor singled out a warning to the judiciary issued last year by Tom DeLay, the former Republican leader in the House of Representatives, over a court ruling in a controversial "right to die" case.

After the decision last March that ordered a brain-dead woman in Florida, Terri Schiavo, removed from life support, Mr DeLay said: "The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behaviour."

Mr DeLay later called for the impeachment of judges involved in the Schiavo case, and called for more scrutiny of "an arrogant, out-of-control, unaccountable judiciary that thumbed their nose at Congress and the president".

Such threats, Ms O'Connor said, "pose a direct threat to our constitutional freedom", and she told the lawyers in her audience: "I want you to tune your ears to these attacks ... You have an obligation to speak up.

"Statutes and constitutions do not protect judicial independence - people do," the retired supreme court justice said.

She noted death threats against judges were on the rise and added that the situation was not helped by a senior senator's suggestion that there might be a connection between the violence against judges and the decisions they make.

The senator she was referring to was John Cornyn, a Bush loyalist from Texas, who made his remarks last April, soon after a judge was shot dead in an Atlanta courtroom and the family of a federal judge was murdered in Illinois.

Senator Cornyn said: "I don't know if there is a cause and effect connection, but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country ... And I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters, on some occasions, where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in violence."

Although appointed by a Republican, Ms O'Connor voted with the supreme court's liberals on some divisive issues, including abortion, making her a frequent target for criticism from the right. After announcing that she intended to retire last year at the age of 75, she was replaced in February this year by Samuel Alito, who is generally regarded as being more consistently conservative.

In her speech, Ms O'Connor said that if the courts did not occasionally make politicians mad they would not be doing their jobs, and their effectiveness "is premised on the notion that we won't be subject to retaliation for our judicial acts".

Why a Nuclear Holocaust is a very real possibility

Well, at the thought of a nuclear holocaust gasoline, silver, gold, and interest rates are increasing. Wealthy individuals have massive amounts of gold and silver stock piled. High interest rates benefit the wealthy. I feel there is a very real chance for a nuclear Holocaust because a few very rich people will make so much money out of high silver, gold, interest rates and oil when the nukes start exploding. Once a nuclear holocaust sends the prices of oil, gold, silver, and interest rates through the roof these bad guys can sell these commodities short and the money bad guys will make is almost beyond comprehension. People may think from reading the newspaper Little George is doing a bad job and his Presidency is on the ropes. Wrong. He is doing a great job in the eyes of evil people because crude oil is the highest ever, $75 dollars per barrel, nearly three times what oil was when he arrived in Office, silver and gold are increasing in price, interest rates are moving up. In reality , the economy is slow and doing badly. Logically oil, silver, gold, and interest rates should be lackluster in a slow global economy at best. The Little George Administration and their warring ways and their threat of a nuclear holocaust are pushing silver, gold, oil, and interest rates up and making a few rich massively richer and during a slow economic time which makes no economic sense. The Little George Administration is doing a horrible job protecting and looking after the interests of the vast majority of people on the planet. But then again Little George has never hinted he cares in the least for the majority. The coward super rich put the guy who admitted he was a drunk until the age of 40 as President of the USA only for money. The bad guys believe a nuclear holocaust will benefit them financially and care nothing about the environment or people, so unfortunately, I see a nuclear holocaust as highly possible. It really defies logic to realize people who are trillion aires will nuke and kill billions of people with no remorse just to become richer. The sixty four dollar question is how will the bad guys manipulate a nuclear holocaust?

Russia has criticized Iran's claim to have successfully enriched uranium, calling it a "step in the wrong direction" and demanding Tehran stops further nuclear enrichment immediately.

China, which is also believed to be opposed to sanctions, urged a diplomatic solution to the row.

Strategic and tactical plans are being laid by US commanders in Iraq and at the US army base in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, under Lieutenant- General David Petraeus to go door to door in Baghdad, killing Shiite, Sunni, and any Arab that moves. All thinking people know this program will not work and is doomed before it starts and will merely cause a Civil War and make matters much worse in Iraq and many USA kids in the military will get killed in the process because of it. Actually the plan is treasonous because it will make war against the United States. Think about the plan for a second. Apply it to your hometown. What would happen if Camp LeJeune marines went door to door in Wilmington killing civilians. How would the marines know which civilians are working against the government and which are not? They would not. The USA military going door to door in Baghdad do not know which Arabs are killing USA soldiers and which are not. Final result. Because of USA brutality all Arabs in Baghdad will make war against the USA. This plan is treason against the USA because what the USA troops will accomplish by going door to door brutalizing Arabs is to force Arabs to make war on the USA. Stupid, treasonous bad idea plan.

The battle for Baghdad is expected to entail a “carrot-and-stick” approach, offering the beleaguered population protection from sectarian violence in exchange for rooting out insurgent groups and Al-Qaeda.

Sources close to the Pentagon said Iraqi forces would take the lead, supported by American air power, special operations, intelligence, embedded officers and back-up troops.

Helicopters suitable for urban warfare, such as the manoeuvrable AH-6 “Little Birds” used by the marines and special forces and armed with rocket launchers and machineguns, are likely to complement the ground attack.

The sources said American and Iraqi troops would move from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, leaving behind Sweat teams — an acronym for “sewage, water, electricity and trash” — to improve living conditions by upgrading clinics, schools, rubbish collection, water and electricity supplies.

Sunni insurgent strongholds are almost certain to be the first targets, although the Shi’ite militias such as the Mahdi army of Moqtada al-Sadr, the radical cleric, and the Iranian-backed Badr Brigade would need to be contained.

Congress Raises Debt Cap, Fourth Increase Under Little George

March 16 -- The U.S. Congress approved a $781 billion increase in the federal government's debt limit, the fourth time lawmakers have raised the cap since President Little George took office.

The Senate voted 52-48 to increase the legal limit on federal borrowing to $8.97 trillion, up from $8.18 trillion. The House approved the measure last year, meaning the legislation now goes to the president for his signature.
